A school former Christian teacher in Oregon who admitted to raping a 15-year-old student was sentenced Friday to less than two years behind bars.

According to The Register-Guard, Andrea Baber, 30, agreed to plead guilty to six counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and three counts of third-degree rape. In turn, her sentences—180 days for each of the delinquency charges and 20 months, 13 months and 180 days for each of rape charges—will be served concurrently.

Baber was a teacher at Logos Christian Academy on Game Farm Road in Springfield at the time of her arrest in December 2017. The news outlet reported that her arrest came days after the victim’s father told police that he and his wife received an anonymous email informing him of Barber and his then-17-year-old son’s illicit relationship. People reported that the email included several images of Baber in bed with the teen.

Amid their investigation, police learned that Baber’s husband had caught the pair in bed together. The husband placed a report with Child Protective Services nearly a week before the victim’s father went to police, according to the magazine.

When subsequently interviewed, the victim reportedly revealed to authorities that his and the suspect’s relationship began in 2016, when he was 15. Citing police, People reported that he also said their sexual encounters occurred “on a regular basis” and Baber provided him with marijuana and alcohol.

“I want to extend my apologies to the victim and his family, and I am happy to serve this sentence if it satisfies the victim’s family, but I know I was not justified,” Baber said during Friday’s sentencing, according to The News-Review.

Prosecutors dropped 20 charges, which included sodomy and providing marijuana to a minor. The Register-Guard reported that Baber must register as a sex offender.
