A medical examiner has ruled on the cause of death of a 22-year-old Google software engineer who was found dead at his desk at the tech giant’s New York City headquarters.

According to the New York Post, the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office announced on Friday that Scott Krulcik died of an abnormal heart rhythm, specifically a “cardiac arrhythmia.”

“This young man died of an abnormal heart rhythm, which developed due to a genetic abnormality in an ion channel of the heart (also known as ‘cardiac channelopathy’),” Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson said in a statement.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, a janitor found Krulcik, 22, unconscious at his desk on the night of December 7 around 9 p.m. Emergency responders provided lifesaving measures but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time, authorities said there was no indication a crime took place, and Krulcik had no history of drug abuse.

Krulcik lived in Manhattan’s West Village and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
